Life and its risks

I received a visitor at my house this morning.

We have been told to reduce social interactions and do not have any visitor at all. In Mexico City cases are at their worst and according to the government we are at most risk than ever before. There is no capacity in the hospitals and if the trends continue there will be no ventilators for the people who needs them.

The problem is that we have been living in this new reality for months. How much longer is this going to be?

Everything fun is still closed in Mexico City. Cinemas, gyms, restaurants are all deserted. There is still a few taco stands in the streets but, who wants to eat there now? Those are the best tacos and have the best flavor, but they are not the cleanest. Who wants to take the extra risk right now?

Anyways, I accepted the visitor to come into the house, even knowing that he is not being careful, but just because he is my daughter´s dad. Plus his birthday is today. So what type of person would I be if I did not allow him inside my house for a couple of hours to eat breakfast with his daughter?

He is the type of person that watches all those Youtube videos about conspiracy theories and does not believe Covid is as bad as they say. Even when he has seen first hand cases of deceased ones that live in the area where he works.

He accepted that both some of his close friends and close relatives have been sick with Covid, but almost nobody died. They did not get that sick.

I listened carefully.

He said I should get over it.

Start going out, do not let the fear stop you.

He said I should think about all we are missing in terms of social life, networks, reciprocity, community. We talked for a while and when he went back to his place, I was left thinking.

I hate him being right. Anyways, he has a point. He is still living and apparently I am not.

I am not living what I want to be living. I am trying my best to feel good and I bake, and…
